Overview

The Data Management Specialist is a motivated, flexible and collaborative member of the Performance and Evaluation (P&E) team who will report to the Executive Director of Performance and Evaluation. This individual will manage our organizational program data infrastructure by ensuring we are collecting the right data, in the right ways, and within the right timeframes to enable effective implementation of programs and to support our evaluation and performance management efforts. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about data integrity and data culture as well as passionate about supporting a diverse cohort of educators at Urban Teachers and dismantling the historic structures of racism and inequity in our educational system.

Responsibilities

  • Data Management and Data Quality
    • Develop and manage R scripts to routinize and automate uploading, cleaning, quality checking, and auditing of data
    • Collaborate on the design, management, and administration of internal data systems
    • Collaborate with the Tech Team on annual Salesforce data rollover and auditing
    • Collaborate with the Tech Team and other team members on Salesforce and Whetstone data structure modifications and maintenance of codebooks
    • Implement staff trainings on data confidentiality, data entry, data cleaning, and data access
    • Collaborate with the Tech Team and Executive Director of P&E on the implementation of data governance structures
  • Dashboards and Institutional Reporting
    • Collaboratively design data collection instruments, support analysis and reporting
    • Support creation of data dashboards and visualizations to support staff access and use of program data to inform participant support and continuous improvement efforts
    • Respond to ad hoc requests in a timely fashion with accurate data
  • External Reporting
    • Conduct ongoing analysis of data, including official data reporting metrics and metrics for funder and grant reports
    • Support Site Teams with local, state and federal compliance reporting
    • Support the organization with timely response to ad hoc data access requests
  • Work to ensure organizational understanding of Urban Teachers’ historical data in areas such as participant placement, experience, and performance
  • Participate in regular check-ins with P&E supervisor and attend weekly P&E Team meetings
  • Other duties to support the P&E team as assigned


Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience in a similar or closely related role
  • Demonstrated success in data management with a strong history of meeting and exceeding goals
  • Experience with data management and data analysis required
  • Experience with writing and implementing scripts using R (or Stata, SPSS, Python, SQL, etc.) required
  • Experience with data visualization platforms, such as PowerBI or Tableau preferred
  • Experience with Salesforce preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to anti-racism and social justice
  • Familiarity and past experience working with students and education data (P-12 and higher education)
  • Experience with Google and Microsoft Office suites, particularly Gmail, Google calendar, Google forms, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Alignment with Urban Teachers’ values (listed below)
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize projects to meet deadlines
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Ability to collaborate effectively
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Prior teaching experience is preferred but not required
